Devotion: “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” ~ Matthew 6:7-8, ESV.

Challenge: Your time praying… In his book Prayer Timothy Keller asks the question “How do you actually spend time in prayer?” He suggests a “framework” with five components. The first is “evocation”, which means “to bring to mind”. This is not bringing to mind prayer requests or going through a daily checklist, instead it is bringing to mind or “thinking over who it is that you will be addressing…” Jesus said, “Pray then like this: ‘Our Father in heaven…’” (Matt 6:9a). Are your prayers general “To whom it may concern”? Or are they directed to God?
