Devotional: “And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent…” ~ Philippians 1:9-10a, ESV.
Challenge: The second clue D. A. Carson gives on overcoming hurdles, from the Apostles Paul’s prayer for the Philippian church, is “to discern what is best.” Carson gives two possible understandings of the term what is best: “things that differ” and “superior things”. When we pray as a church in overcoming hurdles we need the discernment of the Holy Spirit. We cannot allow our human emotions to dictate our next move. “Paul wants believers to grow in their love ‘in order to discern and approve…superior things, the things that really matter.’” What areas do we as a church need to pray for discernment this year? Are we approaching it in and with love?
Prayer:  A special prayer for the families of Greater Calgary area who struggling this Christmas season.
