TAPESTRY PRAYS – OCTOBER 13, 2016
DEVOTIONAL: “Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous. Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths.” Psalm 25:3-4, ESV.
CHALLENGE: Persistent Prayer… When we pray to God we ask for many things: health, stuff, Holy Spirit’s presence, etc. We pray for ourselves, our families, friends, neighbours, and at times we even pray for strangers. Living in the fast-paced society as we do, we tend to get impatient with God when He does not answer us according to our timing. Kendrick says, “God is not our bellhop and doesn’t owe us an immediate response. Sure, He can answer immediately if He wants, but usually He waits.” God waits according to His timing, for “the perfect time.”
We have all heard the parable of the persistent widow and the cruel judge (Luke 18:1-8). How much more does a loving God answer the requests of His children than an evil man getting rid of an annoyance?
During the waiting period we cannot understand God’s reason for waiting, but in the end God’s will is revealed and it is much more glorious than we could ever image. When was the last time you persevered in praying for something or for someone? How much better was God’s response when it finally came versus when you first prayed?
